Onam Pookalam

When ever we talk about Onam in Kerala, the first thing that comes to mind is the flower bed or floral arrangements popularly known as Pookkalam or Athapookalam. The traditional Ona-pookalam usually consists of ten concentric rings of flowers indicating the ten day ritual during the ten day celebrations of Onam. Onam begins on Atham and ends on Thiru Onam in the month of Chingam (August – September).

Nowadays most of the people are more concerned about the design of pookkalams, due to which they are not bothered to keep all the ten rings. The pookkalams are really beautiful and mainly depicts various cultural aspects of Kerala and Onam myth.

Here are a collection of Pookkalam pictures which will help you out to celebrate Onam with lots of fun and excitement.

So celebrate the spirit of the harvest festival in all its splendor. Decorate your house with Pookalams, listen to the melodious Onappattus and enjoy the festivities of the season. Send your loved ones beautiful Onam ecards to wish them joy and prosperity.
